Ghinsberg (Samuel) papers, 1919-1966.
Samuel Ghinsberg was born in Romania and immigrated to the U.S. in 1900. He served as the first executive director of the Oakland Jewish Welfare Federation (1918-1922) and as a district manager for the Jewish Consumptive Relief Association of California. During World War I, he worked for the Jewish Welfare Board.
Correspondence; articles and clippings; and My Exciting Exodus, a manuscript by Ghinsberg that describes both how, in 1900, he led thousands of Jews from Romania and Russia to the U.S. and his meeting with Theodor Herzl
